"Netflix and Dusse"

Following a few popular online singles in the previous years, St. Louis artist Smino has been able to establish an audience thanks to his slurred hometown accent and fresh beats made by Chicago producer, Monte Booker. In 2017, He dropped Blkswn, an album that not only had some speaker-worthy bangers, but managed to add a sense of humanity to a city still healing three years after a summer of trauma. The critical success of Blkswn has made Smino a standout in the late 2010s and he continues to grow with the help of new sounds Kenny Beats.

Along with our guest Josh (@BlackOrpheus) we choose our top three tracks and discuss Smino’s versatility, the rise of Chicago music during the blog era, and how he used an experimental project to let the world know where he’s from.
